Joining the Superior Fruit Innovations™ (SFI) Grower Network means becoming part of a community of forward-thinking, quality-driven growers with access to the University of Minnesota’s exclusive apple and grape varieties.
A membership fee of $100 provides growers with access to all current and future SFI-released varieties for 10 years. This program is only available for U.S. growers but a Canadian program is launching soon.
The licensing model is designed to be straightforward and scalable: a $1.00 royalty per tree or vine is collected at the time of purchase, followed by an annual royalty of $1.00 per plant beginning in the fourth year of growth.
To help maintain varietal integrity and guide future program development, members are required to submit basic annual reports that include: the number of trees or vines planted each year, any plant losses or removals, and the number of plants in production (year 4+) for each variety.
SFI opens the door to premium University-bred apples and grapes selected for their standout performance in local, direct-to-consumer markets.
Designed for flexibility, the SFI model features clear terms, no planting minimums, and straightforward royalties that works for growers of all sizes.
SFI provides tools and support to help you promote your fruit, including branding assets, signage templates, and variety information sheets to enhance your orchard's visibility and appeal.
Join a trusted network of growers, nurseries, and University collaborators focused on bringing premium apples and grapes to local markets through shared knowledge and support.
All varieties are bred by the University of Minnesota for northern climates, with a strong emphasis on performance, disease resistance, and consumer eating experience.
